Community We Gather

Community We Gather was written in honor of my churches 200th Anniversary. It speaks to God’s call for us to be in community with each other and weaves in language, theology, history, and pieces of identity that are near and dear to us a congregation. It is set to the hymn tune AURELIA (The Church’s One Foundation) by Samuel Wesley.
Community we gather; our prayers and songs we raise!
Two hundred years of service, of worship and of praise!
The work we have completed, the work that’s still undone;
Renew our call together, steadfast ‘til ‘Kin-dom’ come.
To seek the mind and vision of God the three-in-one.
To follow as disciples, fulfill what Christ begun.
To serve, to pray, to worship, to learn, to grow, to give;
To ever be a witness to show how Christ would live.
God’s gifts do not know gender, not race, not creed, not age!
They call us to discomfort, to work to be the change.
To widen out our welcome; to love, and to be loved.
God’s grace and love and mercy are sent from up above.
Steadfast throughout the centuries God’s blessings have poured down!
You watch and call us forward; the saints, they gather ‘round.
To show Christ’ love and wisdom in unity we stand!
Diverse in thought and viewpoint, together in God’s plan.
Community we gather; our prayers and songs we raise!
Two hundred years of service, of worship and of praise!
The work we have completed, the work that’s still undone;
Renew our call together, steadfast ‘til ‘Kin-dom’ come.
